Chhay Rithisen, Minister of Rural Development, led an inter-ministerial committee (comprising representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Economy and Finance) to inspect and evaluate the second phase of routine maintenance for 12 road segments. These roads feature a Double Bituminous Surface Treatment (DBST) and span a total length of 157,310 meters, with widths of 5.5 meters and 6 meters. They are located across various communes—including Ou Russey, Krasang, Prey Mul, Cheung Kriav, Trapeang Chan, Trapeang Snaor, Sre Thmei, Ponhea, Chey, Rolea B’ier, Banteay Meas, Trangil, Prasneb, and Pol Pech—within Kampong Tralach, Rolea B’ier, and Baribour districts. The inspection also covered the installation of 35 traffic signs along 5 of these road segments in Kampong Chhnang province. The project was implemented by the Department of Rural Road Infrastructure Development under the Ministry of Rural Development. The inspection and evaluation involved H.E. Ban Boroath, Undersecretary of State and member of the Monitoring and Evaluation Working Group at the Ministry of Rural Development; representatives from the Department of Rural Infrastructure Development and the Procurement Unit; the Director of the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Department of Rural Development; and technical officials.
Additionally, H.E. Chhim Saoky met and spoke with residents living along these roads. The residents expressed their great joy in receiving this new achievement from the Royal Government of Cambodia, delivered through the Ministry of Rural Development, which serves as a significant contribution to improving the livelihoods of rural citizens. The provision of quality roads and a clean environment fosters a better standard of living and helps drive socio-economic interaction in rural areas, ultimately enhancing the living conditions of rural communities.
Following an inspection of the aforementioned work, the Committee formally accepted the completion of the second phase—covering routine maintenance on the 14 roads mentioned, and urged the authorities to actively participate in the ongoing care of these roads. This will ensure their long-term durability and allow them to continue serving the best interests of the nation, the motherland, and the people.
